How It Works

An inductive sensor contains a coil that generates an oscillating electromagnetic field at its sensing face. When a metallic target enters this field, eddy currents are induced in the target, which dampens the oscillation. The sensor detects this change and switches its output. Sensing distance depends on the target material, size, and the sensor's design.
